J. Kevin Logan, BSc (Eng) FSAScot

Commander of the Name Logan

J. Kevin Logan is an American father, grandfather, and a professional engineer by trade, with a passion for his family’s heritage. From his Scotsman forebears & namesakes to the Vikings found in his Y-DNA, Kevin seeks to build bridges and find ways to link them all together. He is proudly serving his extended family around the globe as the Commander of the Family Logan.

In April of 2025, Clan Logan held an historic gathering in Edinburgh, Scotland, supervised by Colin Russell, Bute Pursuivant in the Court of the Lord Lyon the King of Arms. The Supervised Convention brought together from all parts of the world, people with a keen interest in the future of Clan Logan. The purpose of the convention was to have a vote of acclamation for Kevin to be recognized officially as Commander of the Name Logan. The vote was nearly unanimous in support of Kevin. In recognition of the desire of the Family Logan, on 18 December 2025, Kevin received his Commission from the Lord Lyon King of Arms that he was to be recognized as Commander of the Family of Logan.

In preparation for the global convention, Kevin, along with other leaders in Clan Logan, felt it was time to form a charitable organization in the UK to advance and advocate for the unearthing of the real history of the Logans in Scotland. Thus he, Tricia Logan-Locke, Linda Street-Ely, and Robert Logan founded Clan Logan Charitable Trust. Kevin, Tricia, and Linda continue as Trustees today, and are actively involved with the various projects currently underway and planning new ones.

For the last decade, Kevin has volunteered with Clan Logan Society International, first as a clan hospitality tent host in 2015. In the ensuing decade, Kevin held different roles of increasing complexity within the Society, from Webmaster to Newsletter Editor to eventually serving as the President of the Society. The Society has seen rapid growth in the last two years, largely due to Kevin and his leadership team’s focus on publicizing the goal of restoring a Chief of the Name and Arms of Logan.

Kevin was born and educated in rural Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri in 1993. He pursued a successful career in the automotive industry working as a controls and systems expert for many of the major manufacturers, including General Motors, Ford, and Toyota. Kevin was a pioneer in the electrification of the modern consumer vehicle, earning nine patents for his regenerative braking algorithms.

Kevin enjoys studying Scottish culture and history, especially heraldry. He is building a library of books and other items that align with these interests. His favorite book in the library at this point is his 1959 copy of Simple Heraldry Cheerfully Illustrated by Iain Moncreiffe and Don Pottinger. He hopes to someday soon have a personal, Scottish coat of arms granted by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. In recognition for his passionate work in promoting and preserving the heritage of Scotland, Kevin was recently granted Fellowship in the prestigious Society of Antiquaries of Scotland at their Annual General Membership meeting in November 2025.

Although he has enjoyed his work and hobbies a great deal, Kevin’s true concern has always been for his family. He is the proud father of five children, a stepdaughter, and five grandchildren. He lives with his wife Lisa in rural Michigan. His family figures prominently in his life and is at the core of his passion for re-invigorating Logan history and the global family’s impact on the founding of great nations.
