Our Valour

Greetings Family Logan,

Have you ever had so much buzzing about in your head that it stymies your ability to write? That is where I find myself during the deep freeze of Winter in Michigan.

As I look back on 2025, the year that was, I find so many things happened to improve the lot of the Logans connected to Scotland I’m simply amazed. Then as I ponder 2026, the year to come, I see so many wonderful opportunities that lay in store for us. I am stymied as to what I should write to you all in this first-of-its-kind edition of Our Valour, now on Substack. So forgive me if this post becomes more of a novella than a 3 minute read, but I’ll do my best.

At top of mind, for obvious reasons, Our Valour is now officially on Substack. The concept and truly the hard work to bring it about is yet another debt the Society owes to our wonderful Editor in Chief, Linda Street-Ely. This has been a desire of hers for some time, to bring the Society into modern publishing, but she was hampered by her commitments to me, the Society, and the Family Logan. Linda played such a large role in organizing our wonderful Family and Highland Clan of Logan Convention in 2025 that she had little time for this. Now that she has that behind her, and has stepped down as Vice President, she has thrown herself into this excellent project. Early reviews coming to me for the ‘test’ post she sent out have been quite positive. It’s a very exciting endeavor indeed.

Some other things occupying in my thoughts as I ponder the coming months of 2026 are:

  • The continuing search for our hereditary Chief of Name and Arms and the role the Society will continue to play in the search is always right at the top. We (Caleb, Sean, and I) are adding to the team of researchers this year. Marlee Logan, our Social Media Coordinator, has been a family history researcher, genealogist, and researcher for over a decade. She has been working closely with Sean over the last few months to understand the body of work the Society has put together in the last 20 years, and how we ensure the highest quality research is being done. I can’t wait to see the positive impact Marlee will have on the project.
  • The growth of the Society in our international regions, in particular Scotland, Canada, and New Zealand is always on my mind. It was evident that as the year wrapped up, we were not meeting our growth plans internationally for the year. While last year did see excellent growth, we still struggle with reaching Logans outside of the USA, most especially in Scotland. In my work with the Council of Scottish Clans and Associations (COSCA) I have come to learn this continues to be an issue with many, if not most, heritage societies. We will continue with our outreach and follow the guidance of COSCA and the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs as they tackle the issue broadly. Fresh ideas are always welcome.
  • Our partnership with Clan Logan Charitable Trust (SCIO 054035) is increasingly important. We are trying to help the Trust to grow in membership and funding. This is another area where we could really use support from the Logans in Scotland as we move from planning projects to the actual work. These are just a few of the projects we’ve been discussing:
    • Purchase of the Abbey at Culross
    • Logan grave sites mapping and clean up
    • Support for other foundations (FSAScots, etc.) with aligned goals
  • We will be increasing the visibility of Clan Logan during the Highland Festival season. We are planning to be on the ground at more festivals than last year, and more cultural events too (Burns Suppers, etc.). If you have an interest in hosting a Logan hospitality tent at Highland Festivals and Games in 2026, please reach out and let us know. In addition to in-person events, we have Joanne Logan joining us for her first full year as Special Events Coordinator. She will be putting together several online events. You should have received an interest survey from her. If you haven’t returned it yet, please do so quickly.

It’s going to be a very busy year for the Family of Logan. I am truly looking forward to all of the exciting activities and growth we have planned. It’s an honor to serve not only as the President of the Society, but also as your designated Commander of the Name Logan. I hope to meet many more of you as I travel this summer and take part in the cultural events. I’ll get my schedule published before Valentine’s Day and if I happen to be in your area, please reach out so we can meet in person.

Hoc Majorum Virtus!

The Genealogist’s Corner

Sean Logan, Clan Logan Society International Genealogist

Hello Cousins,

2025 has been a very exciting year, highlighted by Kevin Logan being appointed as our Commander. During all this excitement, your Genealogist was focused on setting up the foundation for our future goals, including finding a living heir to the Logan Chiefs of Name and Arms. Therefore, in this article I would like to look back at what we accomplished in 2025 and look forward to 2026 priorities.
