Membership Information
ELIGIBILITY
- There is no fee for being a member of the Clan Logan Charitable Trust.
- Membership is open to all persons descended from or connected by marriage or adoption to the Logans of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
- Surnames associated with Clan Logan include: Logan, Lagan, Laggan, Loban, Lobban, Loben, Logane, Logen, Loggan, Loggane, Loggans, Loggins, Loghyn, Login, Logyn, Lopan, Lowgan, Loggon, Loughan.
- If your surname does not match one from the list above, genealogical proof of an historic family connection to Clan Logan shall be required.
PURPOSES OF THE ORGANISATION
By being a member of the Clan Logan Charitable Trust, you will be directly involved in the purposes of the organisation, which are:
- To advance the arts, heritage and culture of Scotland as well as advancing education in the cultural heritage, history and traditions of Clan Logan for the benefit of the public in Scotland and elsewhere by:a. Promoting and supporting research into the study of the origins, history and other characteristics of Clan Logan, other Scottish Clans and Scottish organisations.
b. Supporting when requested the Commander of the Name Logan, whose role will prioritise both searching for a hereditary chief of the clan, and equally, representing the clan at all relevant opportunities.
c. Publishing the results of all related research and providing information using any medium of communication.
d. Promoting and supporting such conferences, meetings, study tours, talks, film shows, cultural and other events as will lead to the dissemination of knowledge useful for and conducive to the purposes of the SCIO.
e. Exploring, preserving or assisting in preserving sites, buildings, monuments, memorials, articles of any kind and musical, literary and artistic traditions which are of historic interest connected with Clan Logan and/or with Scotland, whether vested in the SCIO or not.
f. Promoting and establishing a centre or centres in Scotland or elsewhere for the preservation and exhibition of such articles, including, in time, a research and study library. - To advance the education of young people who are eligible to be (but need not be) voting members of the SCIO by granting scholarships or bursaries through other charities to assist with their studies.
- To promote such other purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of Scotland and are connected with the charitable purposes of the SCIO, as the Board of Trustees shall determine in their absolute discretion from time to time.
CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP
- A register of all members is required to be kept by the Charity Trustee Secretary. This will include your personal details as given above. This information can be provided to any Charity Trustee upon request and to any member upon written request, assuming the request is reasonable. Addresses will be blanked out prior to sharing this information with a member.
- Your membership cannot be transferred. Membership will terminate upon death.
- From time to time, the Board may require you to confirm whether you wish to remain a member of the organisation. You will have 28 days from the date of notice to reply. Failure to reply could result in expelling your membership.
- Members are required to attend one Annual General Meeting (AGM). Special meetings may be called from time to time.
- Attach your genealogy information showing how you are related to the Logans of the UK or Ireland.
